Sam Houston Elementary, a state Recognized campus, is committed to educational excellence. Our mission is to develop hearts and minds.  We want to ensure that every student succeeds both academically and socially. We also believe that a strong partnership between school and home is one of the best methods to ensure student success.

Developing Hearts and Minds

The 40 Developmental Assets represent common wisdom about the kinds of positive experiences and characteristics that young people need and deserve. Research has shown that young people who possess assets are more likely to exhibit leadership and value diversity and less likely to engage in violence or use drugs.  Regardless of gender, ethnicity, or economic situation, assets promote positive behaviors and attitudes in young people.

Sam Houston Elementary Staff is working to incorporate the strategies behind the 40 Developmental Assets into our daily interactions with our students.  This allows us to continually encourage, strengthen and show support. For more information on the 40 Developmental Assets visit the Search Institutes website at www.search-institute.org.

Sam Houston AYP Report Card
Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP)

The No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act requires that all public schools are evaluated for Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP). Elementary schools are required to meet AYP criteria in three areas: Reading/Language Arts, Mathematics, and  Attendance Rate.  Sam Houston Elementary met 2008 AYP standards in all three areas.  Click the link below to see the complete report card.

From the Principal

We are now into the second semester of school.  This is a very good time to schedule a conference with your child's teacher to discuss your child's progress.  You will want to help your child set goals for the rest of the school year.   During this time of the year, schoolwork can become very challenging.  We are doing our best to motivate and encourage our students everyday.  With your help, your child can achieve success very easily.  Let's continue to work together as a team!
